How to Raise Your Esthetician Prices with Intention (and Confidence)
Nov 02, 2026
Let's talk about raising your prices, and more importantly, the energy behind it.
So often, estheticians approach a price increase from a defensive place: "My costs went up, so I have no choice." We get it. But that energy is felt by our clients, and it's received right back to us.
Raising your prices doesn't have to be something you brace for. When it comes from intention, clarity and a deeper commitment to serving your clients, it becomes something you can share with confidence and joy. Whether you're a solo esthetician, working for someone else, brand new or still in school, this is the mindset we want you to carry into every pricing decision.
Money is still being spent. It's just being spent differently.
The beauty and skincare industry continues to grow, and clients are still investing in their skin. What's changed is where they're choosing to spend it.
Clients are spending their money with the people they value most: the esthetician who delivers a truly valuable treatment, and the relationship they trust. They want to feel safe, nurtured and cared for. Deep value, deep service and nurtured relationships are what people are investing in today.
That's really good news for you, because those are things you get to create.
Step 1: Know your numbers
Before you change a single price on your menu, get your data out in front of you. If we don't know where we're going, it's really hard to get there clearly and intentionally.
- Run your reports. Go back through your booking and sales analytics for the last 3 months, 6 months, 9 months and full year, if you've been in business that long.
- Look at where you've been, where you are right now, and where you want to grow.
- Reevaluate your costs. What does it actually cost you to perform each service? Think product, back-bar, supplies, rent, equipment, education and your time.
- Find your profit margin. Is there even a profit margin there? For some services, you may be surprised by the answer.
Once you know your numbers, you can ask the honest questions: Is my current menu pricing spot on? Am I charging too much? Am I not charging enough? Your numbers tell you how much to raise, so you're never pulling a number out of thin air.
Step 2: Get clear on your why
Every price increase needs an intention behind it. Ask yourself:
- Have my costs actually gone up? Your numbers will show you.
- Am I out of alignment with my pricing? Does it feel like you're not asking for the value you're truly giving?
- Have I grown? New continuing education, new skincare brands and retail, new equipment, a better client experience?
- What comes up for me when I think about raising my prices?
That last question matters more than we often admit. If raising your prices makes your chest tighten or your stomach drop, pause and get curious. Is there a fear of rejection there? An old story about what you're "allowed" to charge? Take time to regulate your nervous system and look at those feelings with kindness. When you feel grounded in your value, your clients feel it too.
Step 3: Decide how much
This is where knowing your numbers pays off. Use your cost-per-service and profit margin to guide your new prices, starting with your most requested services and the treatments you're known for.
Look at your local market for context, but don't price yourself against the cheapest option. Price for the experience, results and relationship you provide.
Step 4: Communicate from a place of service
How you share your new pricing, and the energy behind it, is everything. Compare these two approaches:
Defensive: "Due to rising costs and the economy, I've been left no choice but to raise my prices."
Value-driven: "I've been pouring into my continuing education, investing in new skincare brands and equipment, and making every treatment better for you. To keep serving you at this level, my pricing will be updated on January 1."
Same news, completely different energy. One asks your client to feel sorry for you. The other invites them into what you're building for them.
Here's a sample you can make your own:
"Thank you for trusting me with your skin this year. I've spent this year investing in new education, products and tools so I can serve you even more deeply, and I'm so excited for what's ahead. My updated pricing will take effect on January 1. Book before December 31 to enjoy your current rate on your next visit. I'm so grateful for you."
Share it clearly and kindly by email, text and a small sign at your front desk, with 30 to 60 days' notice. No apologizing, no over-explaining.
And if a client hesitates? Meet them with the same warmth: "I completely understand. Let's find the service that fits you best right now." The clients who value your work will stay, and the ones who don't make room for clients who will.
Working for someone else, or still in school?
This mindset is for you too. If you work in a salon, spa or med spa, knowing your numbers helps you have confident, data-backed conversations about commission, pay and your service menu. If you're a student or brand-new esthetician, start practicing now: learn what your services cost to perform and begin building your value from day one.
