Three reasons why you need continuing education as an esthetician
Sep 10, 2024
Continuing education is a valuable investment in your professional development and can help you achieve your career goals as an esthetician/beauty professional. As a licensed esthetician I know first-hand how important it is to keep up to date on industry changes, latest trends and products. Continuing education is essential for estheticians who want to stay competitive in the field and provide the best possible care for their clients. By investing in ongoing education and training, estheticians can expand their skills and knowledge to grow their career and business. By being well-prepared, knowledgeable, and attentive to your clients, you can create a positive experience that will encourage them to return and recommend your services to others. I put together three reason why you need continued education as an esthetician/beauty professional.
1. Skills are not mastered overnight.
Continuing education provides opportunities to improve your skills, expand your knowledge, and gain new insights and perspectives. This can lead to better job performance, increased job satisfaction, and even better career opportunities. As industries evolve, it's crucial to stay informed about the latest trends, technologies, and techniques. Continuing education can help you stay current and relevant in your field, and ensure that you provide your clients with the best possible service.
2. An esthetic or beauty school's job is to prepare you for state licensing.
To prepare students for state licensing, esthetic and beauty schools typically offer courses that cover the topics and skills that are tested on the licensing exam. Esthetic and beauty schools aim to provide students with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to be successful in their careers as estheticians or beauty professionals. Depending on the school your attending chances are you weren't learning the best and latest techniques, you are learning the basics. We all have done it, and unfortunately we still need more education to now learn the best ways to serve our clients. You have the basics covered, now you need to expand your skills. Continued education after your state licensing can help get comprehensive training that includes hands-on experience and exposure to the latest trends and techniques in the industry.
3. Winging it in the treatment room does not retain clientele.
If you have already tried to wing it - how's that going? Really. Being unprepared during a treatment session can negatively affect the client experience and lead to a decline in clientele. Clients come to you for your expertise and expect a certain level of professionalism and quality in the services they receive.
To retain clientele, it is important to have a solid understanding of the treatments you offer, the equipment and products you use, and the client's specific needs and preferences. This requires preparation and ongoing education to stay current with the latest techniques and trends in your field.
By being well-prepared, knowledgeable, and attentive to your clients, you can create a positive experience that will encourage them to return and recommend your services to others.
